Weekend Special: Shell Recharge Reducing Fuel Rates Temporarily
Shell has launched a dynamic electricity price pilot project at over 1,600 ultra-fast charging stations across Germany. This initiative aims to encourage electric vehicle drivers to charge during times with cheaper, greener electricity, thereby helping to stabilize the electricity grid.
The prices at these charging stations fluctuate throughout the day based on the spot price set at the power exchange, reflecting supply and demand. For instance, lower prices can be expected when renewable energy like solar power is abundant. Since the start of the pilot project on June 30, 2025, prices at around 1,700 fast charging points in Germany have been deviating from the standard price.
During the promotion period, the "e-Deal" offers a 25 percent reduction in prices per kilowatt-hour. Customers can enjoy an even lower kilowatt-hour price of 0.29 €/kWh with the "active Shell Recharge e-Deal". The standard price during the promotion period is 0.39 €/kWh, which is approximately 20 cents below the current average price.
To take advantage of these lowered prices, charging processes must be initiated with the Shell Recharge charge card or via the provider's app. It's important to note that the "e-Deal" is only available within the promotion period and not a permanent tariff.
In addition to the dynamic pricing pilot project, Shell has also abolished nighttime stand-by charges at its own charging points. However, the cooperation of other operators is required to eliminate nighttime blocking fees in roaming. As of now, no specific details or dates regarding this plan have been announced.
Florian Glattes, General Manager of Shell Mobility DACH, emphasized the benefits of the Shell Recharge App and the e-Deal. Shell continues to focus on making charging more affordable and convenient for electric vehicle drivers in Germany.
