Weekend homework could potentially be abolished, as suggested by the State Duma.
Russian politician Sergei Mironov, the leader of the "Fair Russia - For Truth" party and head of its Duma faction, has proposed a significant change in the educational system. Mironov suggests abolishing school lessons on Saturdays, leaving only sports, creative, or educational activities for students.
According to Mironov, the workload on children should be reduced, and this proposal is part of his efforts to achieve that goal. He considers homework an important tool for independent work and material consolidation, but believes that it should not extend to the weekends.
Mironov also addressed the issue of teachers' workload, stating that teachers are overloaded with work equivalent to one and a half to two positions, including extracurricular activities and bureaucracy. He insists on reducing teachers' workload simultaneously with increasing their salaries to at least 200% of the regional average for one position, without overtime.
Vladislav Davankov, vice-speaker of the State Duma from the "New People" party, has also proposed abolishing homework in schools. Davankov believes that the current homework system does not contribute to the acquisition of real knowledge, as students actively use artificial intelligence tools to complete them.
It is worth noting that while there are discussions and implementations of similar proposals globally and in Russia, no verified sources confirm that Mironov has officially presented such a plan regarding the abolition of Saturday school lessons and weekend homework.
The party plans to submit relevant proposals to the State Duma during the fall session. If passed, these reforms could mark a significant shift in the Russian educational system, aiming to improve student well-being and balance study with rest.
The proposed educational reforms by Russian politician Sergei Mironov aim to reduce workload on children, extending beyond abolishing school lessons on Saturdays, he also seeks to reduce teachers' workload simultaneous to increasing their salaries. Meanwhile, Vladislav Davankov, another Russian politician, has proposed abolishing homework entirely, citing concerns about the use of artificial intelligence in completing assignments. These proposed changes, if implemented, may significantly alter the Russian educational landscape, fostering a balance between study and rest for students.
