Universities that did not receive grant awards.
Baring the Grim Truth:
Here's a lowdown on the universities in Kazakhstan that didn't receive state support due to crap employment rates and a lousy position in the Atameken rating, according to Almaty.tv, sourced from Tengrinews.kz.
Olzhas Ordabayev, Deputy Chairman of the Board and Board Member of the National Chamber of Entrepreneurs "Atameken," spilled the beans on the schools that missed out on grants.
"The Ministry of Education and Science took a brave move, denying grants to 36 universities with crummy employment rates and weak rankings in the Atameken rating. Our methodology focuses on employment rates and the relevance of educational programs," he said.
Dishing out the deets on the criteria, Ordabayev told us:
"Take the Kazakh University of Innovative and Telecommunication Systems, with 1,528 students enrolled in its full-time program. That's ridiculous, considering only three students are in the first year, six in the second, five in the third, and a whopping 1,513 in the fourth. Totes messed up, right? This school also awards diplomas to 13% (699) of all law graduates in the country. Meanwhile, KazGUU had only 185 law graduates in 2018. The Central Asian University has less than 30% of its economics graduates employed. Their educational programs are more like useless pieces of paper with low relevance below 10%. The International Humanitarian and Technical University has only 29% of its 'Informatics' graduates employed. Four other specialties have employment rates below 50%. There are plenty more examples, but I'll cut the crap."
