Ten years of transformation: Bellevue di Monaco, once a protest movement, now a respected institution in Munich.
In the heart of Munich's vibrant Isarvorstadt district, the Bellevue di Monaco social cooperative is gearing up for its tenth anniversary celebration. Located at Müllerstraße 2-6, this community hub has been a central contact point for topics related to flight and migration, offering advice, accommodation, and a rich cultural programme for over a decade.
The Bellevue di Monaco, a name that might be unfamiliar to some, was born out of a protest movement in 2013, when local residents rallied to save a playground near its current location. Their efforts were successful, and in April 2016, a 40-year lease was signed for the three houses at Müllerstraße 2-6. Since then, the Bellevue di Monaco has undergone significant renovations, transforming into accommodation for refugees, an information café, and a cultural center for the neighbourhood.
The celebration on July 13 will feature a stage programme, a silent disco on the roof, and a performance by "Dreiviertelblut". The event will be kicked off by a welcome speech from Munich's Mayor, Dieter Reiter. Grisi Ganzer, a key figure in the Bellevue di Monaco, is currently reviewing photos and preparing for the celebration, which will showcase more than ten years of the establishment's history.
The Bellevue di Monaco currently accommodates approximately 40 people and offers a wide range of services. Prominent support and simple means were used in the renovation of the Bellevue di Monaco, which now serves vegetarian food in addition to being an advice institution.
A new project is in the works to save a dilapidated house on Corneliusstraße for renovation, training, and seminar rooms, and the establishment of the Bellevue Education Bakery. This expansion aims to provide more space, enabling the Bellevue di Monaco to offer even more services to the community.
The Bellevue di Monaco's impact extends beyond its physical location. The Dachsportplatz, an outdoor activity venue built during the Corona pandemic, won a neighbourhood award. Additionally, a new "Hallo München" app is available for daily updates on important stories from the Isar metropolis, keeping the community informed and connected.
Grisi Ganzer emphasises that the Bellevue di Monaco is now an established institution for advice in the community. As it celebrates its tenth anniversary, the Bellevue di Monaco continues to be a beacon of community spirit, cultural diversity, and social support in Munich.
The Bellevue di Monaco, an established institution for community advice and self-development, will celebrate its tenth anniversary with a vibrant event that showcases over a decade of its history. As part of its expansion, the Bellevue di Monaco is planning to establish the Bellevue Education Bakery, providing more resources for education and self-development for the community.
