India-UK Vision 2035: A Strategic Partnership for Mutual Growth

India and the United Kingdom have embarked on a new era of cooperation with the endorsement of the India-UK Vision 2035, a strategic partnership agreement. This ambitious plan, announced in July 2025, aims to deepen and diversify bilateral ties over the next decade, driving mutual growth, prosperity, and global impact across various sectors.

Technology and Innovation

The partnership will focus on joint efforts to advance innovation-led growth and emerging technologies. This includes collaboration on artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, semiconductors, quantum computing, biotechnology, and advanced materials. Notable initiatives include establishing a UK-India AI Centre and cooperation on next-generation telecommunications, biomanufacturing, and space research.

Climate Action and Clean Energy

India and the UK will collaborate on clean technology innovation, energy storage, offshore wind, nuclear energy, hydrogen, carbon capture, and battery development. The partnership emphasizes mobilizing climate finance and supporting global climate resilience.

Trade and Economic Growth

An ambitious free trade agreement, the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), is expected to unlock markets, enhance bilateral trade and investment, support job creation, and promote financial services collaboration such as connecting India's GIFT City with the UK financial ecosystem.

Education and Skills

Educational partnerships will be deepened, including transnational university collaborations and the possible establishment of university campuses in both countries to nurture global talent.

Defence and Security

The partnership will enhance cooperation through a Defence Industrial Roadmap to jointly develop and produce defence products and strengthen security ties, reflecting a common commitment to peace and regional stability.

Health and Life Sciences

Cooperation will advance biotechnology and global health security, building on life sciences innovation and joint health initiatives.

Agriculture

The agriculture sector will focus on promoting sustainable and climate-resilient farming.

Green Skills Development

Green skills development will be a shared focus under the India-UK Green Skills Partnership.

Defence Ties

Defence ties will be strengthened through a 10-year industrial roadmap that includes co-development of jet engines and electric propulsion systems. Counter-terrorism, cybersecurity, and tackling cross-border crime are key priorities in defence cooperation.

New Platforms

New platforms like the UK-India AI Centre and the Connectivity Innovation Centre are being set up to accelerate innovation and digital inclusion.

The India-UK Vision 2035 builds on the foundation of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership announced earlier. The two nations will also enhance joint military exercises, boost maritime cooperation, and upgrade security dialogues. The "India-UK Vision 2035" sets ambitious targets across multiple sectors and will be reviewed annually and guided through regular high-level ministerial meetings.

This comprehensive agenda aims to create a partnership greater than the sum of its parts, leveraging strengths from both nations to foster innovation, sustainability, security, and shared prosperity through 2035.

  1. To drive the development of environmental-science and combat climate-change, India and the UK will collaborate on clean technology innovation, energy storage, offshore wind, nuclear energy, hydrogen, carbon capture, and battery development within the India-UK Vision 2035.
  2. By establishing the UK-India AI Centre, the partnership aims to foster innovation and technological advancements in areas like artificial intelligence, while also focusing on next-generation telecommunications, biomanufacturing, and space research.
  3. To foster economic growth and job creation, a free trade agreement, the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), is expected to enhance bilateral trade and investment between India and the UK, as well as support financial services collaboration such as connecting India's GIFT City with the UK financial ecosystem.
