Students at Bucks County Community College now have the opportunity to earn a bachelor's degree from Wales.
Bucks County Community College and Wrexham University Partner for Accelerated Business Program
Bucks County Community College (BCCC) in the United States and Wrexham University in Wales have joined forces to offer an exciting opportunity for Business Administration students. This partnership, initiated by the purchase of Wrexham's professional soccer team by Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, will allow students to complete their Bachelor's degree in one year and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in two years.
The collaboration, described as a result of serendipity, is set to offer potential time and financial savings for students. Bachelor's degrees can be completed in three years at universities in the United Kingdom, providing a significant cost reduction. Moreover, the accelerated nature of the program means students could save valuable time, allowing them to enter the workforce sooner.
Tracy Timby, Vice President of Workforce and Strategic Partnerships at BCCC, played a key role in the partnership's inception. She messaged a Wrexham administrator on LinkedIn, sparking the conversation that led to this unique opportunity.
Wrexham University boasts strong relationships with employers in both the U.K. and the U.S., which could provide professional benefits for students. However, specific details about these benefits are not yet available.
Greg Luce, Dean of the School of Business, Innovation and Legal Studies at BCCC, hopes to have a few students continue their education in Wales starting in the fall of 2026. For students who cannot commit to a year in Wales, an exchange of a week or two may be a more manageable option.
The partnership may eventually involve following students from the U.S. as they build a life in Wrexham. Living and studying in another country can contribute to students' professional growth, providing a huge advantage when seeking jobs after graduation.
Information sessions on the program will be offered this semester. There is also potential for the partnership to evolve to include shorter exchanges of faculty and students. The documentary series "Welcome to Wrexham" played a role in facilitating this higher education partnership, further strengthening the growing connection between Greater Philadelphia and Wrexham.
Interest in study abroad is increasing among U.S. students, with some applying to colleges overseas due to federal funding cuts to higher education institutions in the U.S. This partnership with Wrexham University offers a compelling reason for students to consider studying abroad, combining the benefits of a top-tier education with the cultural richness of Wales.
