Skateboarding demonstration for kids and teens: industry experts highlight key skills in skateboarding
In the heart of Osnabrück, the city's skate hall at the Rosenburg played host to an exciting two-day skateboard workshop for children and young people aged 8-13, as part of the Osnabrück holiday pass offer.
The workshop, led by coach Shpresim and his team, saw participants honing their skateboarding skills, learning the basics, and enjoying a fun and social experience. The skate hall, with its cool underground atmosphere, graffiti, and gaps, provided the perfect setting for the event.
On the first day, the participants, many of whom had brought their own skateboards, helmets, and protective gear, practiced standing securely on their boards and driving smoothly. Shpresim, known for his encouraging style, motivated the kids with phrases like "What's up with you?", "Is it running?", "Smooth" or "Stable".
After three-quarters of an hour, Shpresim encouraged the kids to try skating down a small ramp. Under the supervision of holiday pass helper Sarah Knopf and FSJler Laurin Göbel, the kids practiced on a straight track and later tried the Fakie, which is rolling backwards in the skateboard scene.
The second day promises to be just as exciting, with another coach, Wim, ready to guide the young skaters. Falling, according to Shpresim, is considered as much a part of skateboarding as drinking regularly, and the emphasis remains on learning in a safe and supportive environment.
Fiete (10 years old) and Sara (11 years old), who received skateboards and equipment as a gift two years ago, are among the participants. Eloa (11 years old), who has been actively involved for half a year and has learned a lot through regular outdoor training, is also looking forward to the second day.
The Osnabrück skateboard workshop, like similar events in Salzkotten and Lembruch, focuses on teaching basics such as foot positioning, steering, accelerating, and braking, with lessons on choosing the right board size and wheels. The coaching emphasizes improving coordination, patience, stress relief, and personality development through sport.
Feedback from comparable events praises both the coaching approach and the fun social experience. As the workshop comes to a close, participants can expect a takeaway skateboard or similar reward for their efforts. With the second day of the Osnabrück skateboard workshop just around the corner, the anticipation is palpable.
