Seeking New Mentors for The Kulmbacher Project

The Kulmbach district in Germany is gearing up for the new school year with the launch of a new initiative, The Mentor Project. Based in the Kulmbach County Administration, this project aims to provide support to children struggling with reading.

The demand for reading mentors in the Mentor Project is high and increasing, reflecting the growing need for literacy support among young learners. Last school year, 159 children were supported by the project, with 117 mentors actively involved in schools across the district.

The Mentor Project's unique approach not only strengthens children's language skills but also boosts their self-confidence. The model involves a reading mentor meeting with a schoolchild once a week during class time, creating a supportive and nurturing environment for the child to thrive.

The support usually extends over the entire school year, excluding holiday times. Regular deployment at schools will begin in October after a seminar, which will take place at the Max-Hundt School in Kulmbach. This seminar will cover project details, practical tips, and mentor networking.

No special pedagogical knowledge is required to become a reading mentor; a love of reading, empathy, and a desire to support young people are essential. A one-day introduction seminar will be held on September 13, 2025, for those interested in becoming reading mentors.

Kulmbach County Administration is seeking engaged citizens to join as reading mentors. For those interested, direct contact with local educational or library authorities is recommended. Contact the Kulmbach district education authority (Landratsamt Kulmbach – Schulamt) or reach out to local libraries like the Kulmbach Stadtbibliothek. Inquire at local schools for any reading mentorship initiatives, search for volunteering platforms or associations active in the Kulmbach area, or visit the Mentor Project's official website for more information.

The Mentor Project is supervised by the Kulmbach County Administration, which provides insurance protection for volunteers, organizes regular exchange opportunities, further training, and an end-of-school-year event. The project's principle is based on patient, playful, and joyful reading with the child, making it an enjoyable and rewarding experience for both mentors and mentees.

Join the Mentor Project today and make a difference in a child's life by helping them develop their reading skills and build their self-confidence.

The Mentor Project, an initiative based in Kulmbach County Administration, extends beyond improving reading skills, also targeting home-and-garden magazines and websites for potential partnerships to provide a comprehensive support system for children, transforming their lifestyle.

While the Mentor Project primarily focuses on education-and-self-development, it recognizes the importance of fostering a well-rounded approach, including the arts and hobbies, which could enhance both mentors' and mentees' lifestyle and self-development.
