Science-Fuelled Mornings: Essential Gear for a Stellar Start to Your Day

Get ready for an exciting week as The Great Science Share event is set to take place on the 6th of July! This inspiring event, designed for children aged 5-14, aims to foster curiosity, scientific questioning, and hands-on learning.

Here's a sneak peek at some of the engaging activities that await the 90 participating children:

1. **Healthy Hula Hoops**: Children will put their investigative skills to the test as they sort foods into healthy and less healthy categories, group them into main food groups, and consider the balance of each type of food in a meal.

2. **Bouncing Balls**: This activity encourages children to start thinking about how the size, weight, shape, and material of a ball affect its bounce.

3. **Bubbles, bubbles and more bubbles**: Children will have the opportunity to put themselves inside bubbles and make their own bubble wands.

4. **Ice cube melting race**: Each child will participate in this exciting race, using salt, warm and cold water to see which ice cube melts fastest.

5. **Heart Rate Investigation**: Through this activity, children will learn about the changes in the body when exercising and start thinking about experimental procedures.

6. **Viscosity Races**: Children will investigate how the viscosity of different liquids affects the speed they flow down a ramp.

7. **Hockey Puck Challenge**: The aim is to find out which material allows a milk bottle top (hockey puck) to move over an icy surface most easily.

8. **Football Goal Construction**: A unique twist on traditional football, children will build a football goal using plasticine and spaghetti.

9. **Landing Pad Design**: Using junk modelling materials, bubble wrap, and sellotape, children will create a landing pad for a water balloon.

10. **Sugar Content Calculation**: In the 'How much sugar?' activity, children will match the sugar to the drinks and use a balance or scale to calculate the sugar content.

For added fun, there will also be a Makey Makey piano and a comparison of bouncing a ball on a tennis racket versus a rounders bat as part of the spare tasks.
