School conducts hands-on session featuring Bullfrog synth, led by Erica Synths and Richie Hawtin.
The Music School Embraces Innovation with Erica Synths Bullfrog Workshop
The Music School, a renowned institution committed to teaching excellence, recently hosted a special workshop featuring the Erica Synths Bullfrog synthesiser. This groundbreaking device, designed in collaboration with techno pioneer Richie Hawtin, offers a unique and accessible approach to learning synthesis.
Crafted to provide a visual, practical, and user-friendly experience, the Bullfrog synthesiser was set up for eight students at the Hoxton campus of the Music School. The workshop provided students with a hands-on experience, allowing them to interact directly with the synth's controls and explore sound synthesis concepts visually and sonically.
The synth's design emphasizes clarity and simplicity, making it ideal for use in music schools, workshops, or by curious beginners. This approach supports workshops or classes focusing on electronic music production and sound design, offering real-time feedback and a tactile learning experience.
During the workshop, students delved into sound physics fundamentals, subtractive synthesis principles, and creative patching techniques. The Sound Design module leader at the Music School, James Malone, guided students through the world of analogue synthesis, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the Bullfrog's capabilities.
Special thanks were given to Erica Synths for providing the Bullfrog units and to Jacq for sharing her expertise. The workshop culminated in an improvised jam session where students put their newly acquired knowledge to creative use.
The Music School is dedicated to offering opportunities for learning from industry professionals and using cutting-edge technology. Registering with the Music School provides access to free sounds, plugins, online course samples, and more. The institution's social platforms will also provide glimpses behind the scenes and announcements about future collaborations.
One of the students commented that the hands-on experience helped them understand synthesis concepts that had previously seemed abstract. The Bullfrog synthesiser serves as both a performance instrument and an educational tool, bridging the gap between complex synthesis theory and tangible practice for emerging electronic musicians and producers in academia.
The Music School offers a wide range of degrees with flexible start dates throughout the year.
