The Gangolf Schrimpf Visiting Fellowship: A Unique Opportunity for Scholars
The Theological-Historical Studies Support Association in Fulda e.V. is offering the Gangolf Schrimpf Visiting Fellowship for the academic year 2025/2026. This prestigious fellowship is open to scholars in the fields of history, theology, philosophy, and philology, who are pursuing a research project on the history or intellectual history of early or high medieval Europe.
The fellowship offers excellent research conditions, with free accommodation with breakfast or a housing allowance, a travel allowance, and access to extensive research literature and data on the monastery library. Fellows will have the opportunity to publish their research findings and participate in the meetings of the Arbeitskreis Bibliotheca Fuldensis.
The fellowship aims to continue the vision of Gangolf Schrimpf, who founded the Bibliotheca Fuldensis project in 1981. Schrimpf, a philosopher and medievalist, passed away in 2001, but his legacy lives on through this fellowship, which is named in his honour. The fellowship is intended to contribute to further research on the rich manuscript heritage of Fulda Monastery.
Projects related to Fulda manuscripts are particularly welcome for the fellowship. Fellows will give a public lecture on their research project, providing an opportunity to share their findings with the academic community and the general public.
Applications for the fellowship should be sent to Prof. Dr. Cornelius Roth, the chairman of the association. The deadline for applications is October 31, 2025.
