Scandal exposed in video: Blogger Daricorn issues apology to the boy involved
In a Twitter update, influencer Dariga Nurkeeva, known as Daricorn, revealed her encounter with the 9-year-old boy featured in one of her video posts and his mother.
The instant-grabbing social media star shared a series of stories depicting the trio, sitting together, discussing the apparent misunderstandings that had ensued.
"Lots have heard about our situation. Today we met, talked it all over. I'd like to apologize again to everyone. Filming little ones without their parents' consent was a hard-learnt lesson for me and for the entire Kazakh community. We take full responsibility," stated Dariga Nurkeeva.
Following their meeting, the influencer gave the boy a warm embrace and his mother as well. Under the picture with her child's video star, Daricorn wrote "Happy end."
The Video Controversy: What Went Down
The social media sphere was buzzing with controversy, with a 9-year-old child, the star of a promotional video for Qatty Tatty cafe, at the heart of the storm. The boy's mother alleged that her consent wasn't sought for the filming. The video edits and subsequent comments had a detrimental impact on the child's mental health.
The filming reportedly took place in August 2024 in Almaty, at the intersection of Manas and Abay streets, near one of the Qatty Tatty cafes. Daricorn asked the child about his favorite food, to which he answered "Pizza". However, in the video, the text read differently – a different word appeared in large letters on the screen instead of 'pizza'.
The video quickly amassed over 2.5 million views and thousands of comments, many of which were offensive and hostile towards the child.
"After that, he faced bullying at school, football training, and even in the courtyard. The cafe management noticed the offensive comments about my son but showed no intention to remove the video, possibly to boost its reach," elaborated the boy's mother.
Ministry of Education's Response
The Committee for the Protection of Children's Rights of the Ministry of Education responded to this story. They informed that the boy's mother was personally contacted by the committee's chairperson, Nasymjan Ospanova. The family was offered both psychological and legal support.
"In case of initiating legal proceedings, the committee stands ready to officially champion the rights and interests of the child," they noted.
They also reminded that, according to Article 145 of the Civil Code, the use of any individual's image, including a child's, is legal only with their consent or that of their legal representative.
According to the Personal Data Protection Act, a minor's image is considered restricted access personal data and is protected by law.
The authorities have appealed to bloggers and influencers to conform to the law and respect the rights of every child.
