Sarah Peyre, an accomplished educator and strategic leader, is set to take on a new role as Vice Dean for Education and Associate Vice President of Clinical Education at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry (SMD), starting on July 1.

Over the past four years, Peyre has honed her strategic leadership skills, playing a significant part in the development and implementation of the Warner 2030 Strategic Plan. She has also served as the Dean of the Warner Graduate School of Education and Development, a role she will be stepping down from on June 30.

Peyre's extensive experience in education extends back to her time as the Director of Education and Research for the STRATUS Center for Medical Simulation at the Brigham and Women's Hospital. She is nationally recognised for her work in simulation and educational innovations in healthcare.

In 2020, Peyre received the Madeline H. Schmitt Award for Interprofessional Education from the Rochester Academy of Medicine, a testament to her commitment to collaboration across disciplines.

During her tenure as interim provost from July 2021 to June 2022, Peyre helped the University navigate the challenges of the COVID pandemic and launched the first steps of the University's strategic plan.

As part of her new role, Peyre will develop a strategic vision for SMD's education programs, with a focus on innovation, students, faculty, and aligning program goals with learning outcomes. She will oversee graduate and medical education at SMD, working to embed the spirit of meliora - continuous development - into the education programs.

Peyre's new role will also focus on interprofessional education, aligning clinical practice with the growth and development of professionals and care teams. This aligns with the University's broader "Boundless Possibility" strategic plan, which emphasises innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and increasing access through financial support for graduate students.

David Linehan, MD, SMD dean and CEO of the University of Rochester Medical Center, expressed excitement about Peyre's appointment, praising her commitment to education and her ability to drive innovation.

Peyre holds a master's degree in medical education and a doctorate in educational psychology from the Rossier School of Education at the University of Southern California. Her past experiences have sharpened her skills in strategic leadership and implementing strategic plans, as demonstrated by her role in developing and implementing the Warner 2030 Strategic Plan and her time as interim provost.

With her appointment, Peyre will play a crucial role in shaping the future of healthcare education at the University of Rochester SMD.

In her new role as Vice Dean for Education and Associate Vice President of Clinical Education, Sarah Peyre will leverage her expertise in medical education and strategic leadership to drive innovation in patient care through the development of a strategic vision for the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry's education programs. As she focuses on interprofessional education and aligning clinical practice with the growth and development of professionals and care teams, Peyre will also prioritize continual development and learning, fostering an environment of education-and-self-development and personal-growth for both students and faculty.
