Recent Developments Regarding the Commencement of Woodland Hall Operations
Woodland Hall Delayed but Set to Welcome Students This Month
After an unexpected delay due to a waterproof layer not meeting Oberlin College's standards, the much-anticipated Woodland Hall is set to open its doors to students this month. Located near the athletics complex, the new 402-bed residence hall will provide a modern living space for students.
Despite the delay, the building's occupancy permit was secured in June, allowing construction to continue and for the residence hall to be ready for occupancy. However, some exterior work remains, including installation of siding on the north and west facades and courtyard, which will continue until mid-October. Landscaping will be completed in the coming weeks, with additional planting planned for early fall to optimize conditions.
To minimize the impact on the schedule, additional crews and extended construction hours were used during summer 2025. Construction areas near students are fenced off, and windows facing these areas have privacy film until work is completed.
The waterproof layer that did not meet Oberlin's standards was redone at the contractor's expense to ensure quality. Questions pertaining to move-in can be directed to reslife@our website, and residents of Woodland Hall will receive an email with move-in guidelines.
The siding being installed is a combination of brick and fiber cement panels on the south- and east-facing facades. The parking lot of Woodland Hall has been poured and striped, with 226 spaces available.
Grand-opening festivities for Woodland Hall will be announced in due course. For more information about Woodland Hall, visit the Residence Life website.
