Quebec welcomes the arrival of Sea Dome website
The Sea Dome, an immersive oceanic adventure, is making its way across Quebec this summer, showcasing the connections between ocean health, climate change, and daily life. Supported by Ocean Wise®, a conservation organisation dedicated to protecting the world's oceans, the Sea Dome tour is bringing the magic of the sea to communities across Canada.
The Sea Dome, a portable and inflatable dome six meters in diameter, projects 360-degree 4K cinematic footage that transports observers to the Arctic, tropical reefs, and the St. Lawrence River. Marine artifacts, such as those highlighting the impacts of Arctic sea ice melting, ocean acidification on tropical reefs, and whale habitat protection in the St. Lawrence River, are also on display.
Since May 12, bilingual educators have been traveling across the province, sharing the ocean with thousands of people using the Sea Dome and marine artifacts. The tour has already made stops in Saguenay, where it presented marine artifacts and the immersive projection in various bilingual summer camps.
In the coming weeks, the Sea Dome will be participating in summer camps, community events, and festivals across the region. Some of the confirmed stops include Trois-Pistoles, Les Escoumins, Baie-Saint-Paul, Victoriaville, Beauceville, Wakefield, Chelsea, and Gatineau.
On July 15, Trois-Pistoles will be next at L'Escale Maritime for a community day, followed by Les Escoumins. The Sea Dome will also be in Baie-Saint-Paul from July 25 to 29, facilitating a community event and visiting summer camps. The municipality of Piedmont will welcome a community day by the Sea Dome on August 9, and the Sea Dome will return to central Quebec in Victoriaville and Beauceville from August 4 to 8 for day camps and community events.
The Sea Dome tour will end its summer tour near Gatineau from August 20 to 21 in the Wakefield and Chelsea area to conclude its Quebec adventure. For precise dates, schedules, or further locations, you should check the official Ocean Wise® Québec communication channels or their website for the latest updates.
Samantha Dimitraki, the education manager at the Sea Dome, stated that it is significant for them to bring their first oceanic programming tour entirely in French to Quebec for the first time with Ocean Wise®. The Sea Dome tour is a testament to Ocean Wise®'s commitment to protecting the world's oceans and raising awareness about the importance of ocean health and climate change.
