Public urged to fill a police cruiser with school supplies at Latonia Kroger, as requested by Covington police department.
The Covington Police Department is set to host its annual "Cram the Cruiser" School Supply Drive on Saturday, July 12, 2023, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event will take place at the Kroger store located at 4303 Winston Avenue, Latonia, Covington.
This year, the department aims to distribute 100 backpacks filled with essential school supplies to Covington youth, with the help of community members. The backpacks are gathered by several Covington Neighborhood Associations, and the collaboration aims to help local students prepare for the school year.
Community members are encouraged to purchase school supplies directly at Kroger and then donate them by filling police cruisers with these supplies. The supplies collected will be used to fill backpacks that will be distributed at the city's National Night Out celebration on August 5.
While exact items are not listed, typical school supply drives usually request essentials such as notebooks, pencils, pens, crayons, folders, glue sticks, and backpacks. Donations are also accepted at the Covington Police Department lobby from July 1st to July 21st if individuals prefer to donate school supplies outside the main event.
Sgt. Rachel White, the Department's Police Community Liaison, stated that working together to help kids ready themselves for the school year is a great way to make a positive lasting impact on the community. She encourages residents to stop by, say hello to their neighborhood officers, and make a donation if they're able.
Last year, the Covington Police Department handed out 86 stuffed backpacks to Covington youth, demonstrating the impact of the community's generosity. The event, called "Cram the Cruiser," is a testament to the department's commitment to supporting students and fostering positive relationships between the police department and the community.
If you plan to participate, you can either donate supplies at Kroger on July 12 or drop off donations at the police department by July 21. Together, we can ensure that local students have the tools they need to succeed in the upcoming school year.
Community members are encouraged to support the Covington youth by donating essential school supplies during the annual "Cram the Cruiser" School Supply Drive in Covington, particularly at the Kroger store located at 4303 Winston Avenue, Latonia, Covington on July 12. The collected school supplies will be used for education-and-self-development purposes, such as filling backpacks to help students prepare for the school year.
