The Park University Gilbert Campus, situated in the heart of the town's Heritage District, is preparing to host its inaugural commencement ceremony on April 30, 2022. This campus is one of 41 within Park's system, which includes 31 campuses on military installations across the country.

The ceremony will take place at Paloma Community Church in Mesa, Ariz., and is expected to see approximately 70 students receive their bachelor's and master's degrees.

Mayor of the Town of Gilbert, Brigette Peterson, will provide the keynote address at the ceremony. Peterson, a political figure known for her service as the mayor of Gilbert, Arizona, is also scheduled to make remarks at the event.

Park University President Shane Smeed will speak to the graduates and confer degrees at the ceremony. Smeed was appointed president in January 2022, after serving 13 months as interim president.

Laurie DiPadova-Stocks, Ph.D., a professor of public administration at Park University, is also scheduled to address the graduates.

The University received approval by the Higher Learning Commission and the Arizona State Board for Private Postsecondary Education to operate in Arizona. Park University currently serves 13,250 students annually worldwide, including about 500 in Gilbert.

The Gilbert Campus is one of two Park locations in the Phoenix area and among three campuses in Arizona. It began offering classes and degree programmes at the Gilbert Campus in October 2018. Park University also has campuses at Luke Air Force Base in Glendale and at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson.

Yira Brimage took on the role as the vice president of the Gilbert Campus of Park University in November 2021. Before her service on the town council, Peterson served on the Gilbert Planning Commission for more than 14 years. Prior to serving as the mayor, Peterson served more than five years on the Gilbert Town Council.
