Park University Secures a $250,000 Grant for Finance Lab in the New Building of Its Business School
Park University's Plaster Center: A New Home for the School of Business
Park University is set to construct a new building, the Robert W. Plaster Free Enterprise Center, which will serve as a dedicated home for the School of Business. The project is scheduled for a groundbreaking in 2024 and will include a finance lab, modern classrooms, faculty offices, student collaboration spaces, and conference/meeting rooms.
The finance lab will provide students with a unique real-world experience, accessible to both on-campus and online students. It will utilize the same software and similar environment as financial investment professionals. The lab's construction is supported by a $250,000 grant from the Edward F. Swinney Trust, Bank of America, N.A., Trustee.
The Plaster Center will be built on Park University's flagship campus in Parkville, Missouri, on the east side of the University's main entrance. Upon completion, it will be the home of the University's School of Business and the Park Global Warrior Center.
Meanwhile, Park University continues to make strides in various areas. The University's Faculty Center for Innovation was a finalist for the Professional and Organizational Development Network in Higher Education's 2017 Innovation Award.
In the world of academics, Park University faculty and students are making significant contributions. Dennis Okerstrom, Ph.D., professor of English, presented discussions related to his book, Dick Cole's War: Doolittle Raider, Hump Pilot, Air Commando. Alayna Howard, a senior English writing major, presented her Honors Academy research project at the Midwest Popular Culture Association's annual conference in St. Louis.
Judi Simmons Estes, Ph.D., associate professor of education, authored a chapter in the book, Handbook of Research on Pedagogies and Cultural Considerations for Young Language Learners. Jeff Ehrlich, Ed.D., associate professor of healthcare administration, was a co-presenter at the EDUCAUSE annual conference in Philadelphia.
The University's athletes are also excelling. Five Park University athletes have earned all-conference honors from the American Midwest Conference for their play during the 2017 season.
