Over 1,000 Kentucky Students Compete at SkillsUSA State Leadership Conference

Over 1,000 Kentucky students are gathering in Louisville for the SkillsUSA State Leadership Conference. This event, aligning with the Kentucky Department of Education's United We Learn vision, offers real-world experiences and fosters innovation. It features 98 competitions across various career areas, with winners advancing to the national championships in June.

The conference, supported by industry experts and trade associations, helps students develop leadership skills, technical abilities, and soft skills. Chloe Blackwell, a junior in Health Science, is returning for her second year, finding the competitions invaluable for real-world preparation. Angela Burger, a senior in welding, is attending for the first time, eager to network and step out of her comfort zone.

Local businesses and industries contribute supplies and foster partnerships, providing potential employment opportunities. The event is backed by partners like the Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio Regional Council of Carpenters (IKORCC) and Ford, which offer materials, resources, scholarships, and funding. SkillsUSA Kentucky serves over 3,500 students and instructors annually, making a significant impact on education and future workforce development.

The SkillsUSA State Leadership Conference in Louisville brings together students, educators, and industry professionals to promote skilled trades and prepare students for future roles. With over 1,000 participants, the event offers a platform for growth, learning, and competition, ultimately benefiting Kentucky's workforce.
