In a significant step towards enhancing vocational education in the region, the Chamber of Crafts Rheinhessen has commenced construction of a new training center in Mainz-Hechtsheim. Located on a plot of approximately 11,600 square meters at Robert-Koch-Straße, the center is anticipated to be completed by mid-2027.
The ambitious project is expected to cost around 34 million euros, with funding coming from various sources. The Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the Federal Ministry of Economy and Technology are providing approximately 14.4 million euros each for the construction and equipment of the center. The center will also provide training for future master craftsmen, with around 82 apprentices, 100 further training participants learning there daily. Approximately 2,000 people will be trained annually at the new training center.
In addition to practical training, the center will offer career orientation programs and vacation programs to help students make informed decisions about their future careers and provide opportunities for continuous learning. The center will also conduct journeyman and master examinations to ensure that the trained individuals meet the required standards of excellence.
Minister of Economy Daniela Schmitt (FDP) has praised the investment, stating that it is a well-invested amount for the new training center.
