NESTOR Bildungsinstitut GmbH Successfully Emerges from Insolvency Proceedings

After a challenging period, NESTOR Bildungsinstitut GmbH, a leading education provider in Germany, has successfully concluded its insolvency proceedings. The Local Court of Berlin-Charlottenburg lifted the insolvency procedure on July 31, 2025, marking a significant milestone for the company.

The insolvency proceedings, which were conducted as an insolvency in Eigenverwaltung (self-administration), were initiated due to financial difficulties caused by the failure of payments from the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) from October 2024. The premature exhaustion of BAMF’s annual budget for integration language courses, a significant part of NESTOR’s offerings, led to a liquidity crisis despite the company's operational scale.

During the proceedings, NESTOR managed to preserve 68 out of its 71 locations across eight German states and maintained more than 480 jobs. The company was able to keep its ownership structure and all required educational licenses intact.

To navigate these difficulties, NESTOR initiated the insolvency proceedings in Eigenverwaltung, enabling management to retain control and coordinate restructuring efforts internally. This approach allowed the development of a viable future strategy for all business areas and received strong creditor support, with only two dissenting votes from minor creditors.

As part of this restructuring, NESTOR collaborated with the Schultze & Braun group, a strategic partner that helped stabilize and reposition the business for the future. This partnership was a critical element in securing the continuation of the company’s services and safeguarding jobs and locations through the recovery phase.

The restructuring plan developed during the proceedings was led by Guido Koch from Schultze & Braun. NESTOR Bildungsinstitut GmbH offers services according to the Residence Act or the Integration Course Ordinance, as well as the Vocational Training Assistance Act. The company provides vocational and further training services, integration and vocational language courses, which are paid for by BAMF.

NESTOR operates training locations in Berlin, Brandenburg, North Rhine-Westphalia, Lower Saxony, Thuringia, Schleswig-Holstein, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, and Saxony. The insolvency proceedings gave NESTOR the opportunity to separate from uneconomical locations.

NESTOR Managing Director Bastian Ubben stated that the demand for their educational offerings remains at a consistently high level. Insolvency expert Dr. Christoph von Wilcken of Schultze & Braun expressed his satisfaction, stating that he is very pleased that it has been possible to restore NESTOR's future prospects through the proceedings.

This series of events demonstrates a controlled and largely successful restructuring of NESTOR Bildungsinstitut, allowing it to maintain a strong position as a major education provider in Germany despite external funding challenges.

  1. Despite the financial difficulties faced due to insufficient payments from BAMF, NESTOR Bildungsinstitut GmbH successfully preserved its business operations and education-and-self-development offerings, offering services according to the Residence Act, Integration Course Ordinance, and Vocational Training Assistance Act.
  2. To sustain its financial standing and further its business growth, NESTOR collaborated with Schultze & Braun, a strategic partner, in the education-and-self-development sector, ensuring the continuation of services, maintenance of jobs, and growth of the company.
