MyFoodAngels: From Neighborhood Groceries to Thriving Tech Business
MyFoodAngels, a Lagos-based grocery delivery service, has made waves in the tech scene, featured on platforms like TechCabal and Premium Times. Starting as a simple neighborhood service in 2021, the company has since grown into a thriving google business, serving over 10,000 customers.
Founded by Olapeju Umah, MyFoodAngels began as an informal service helping neighbors source groceries more conveniently. Initially relying on manual processes like WhatsApp lists and direct market runs, the company has since evolved into a tech-driven platform employing over 30 people.
MyFoodAngels has received significant support along its journey. In 2023, it won GET Accelerated, securing equity-free funding. The company also benefited from a Flourish Africa grant, designed to empower small business ideas. These funding opportunities, along with initial manual processes, demonstrate that impactful businesses don't always need massive funding to start.
Today, MyFoodAngels serves around 5,000 returning users every month. It sources directly from farmers, creating a more reliable supply chain and contributing to the local economy.
From humble beginnings, MyFoodAngels has grown into a profitable platform serving thousands of households across Lagos. With a team of over 30 employees, the company continues to make an impact, proving that innovative ideas and perseverance can lead to success, even without massive initial funding for my business.
