Expanded Renovation Progress Report: Garbagna Kindergarten and Elementary School Merger – Via Roma

The recent renovation project of the Garbagna Kindergarten and Elementary School in Via Roma is progressing as planned. Here's a more detailed look at the project's current status, updated schedule, and upcoming steps.

Current Status:

  • Funding: The Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Alessandria has contributed 50% of the costs for the unification project, making it possible to carry out the necessary renovations.
  • Building History: The ground floor of the Via Roma building, previously empty due to the closure of the middle school in the village, is now undergoing renovation.
  • Classroom Expansion: With the merger, kindergarten students will now have access to computer and multimedia classrooms and the gym. The kindergarten's operation hours have been extended into the afternoon, and full-day care will be provided, extending beyond the previous 13:00 dismissal time.
  • Structural Works: The foundational reinforcement and structural modifications to accommodate the merged facilities are approximately 75% complete. Load-bearing walls have been reinforced, and the main framework is stable.
  • Interior Renovations: Partition walls between classrooms are in progress. Electrical wiring and plumbing installations have commenced, with about 60% completed.
  • Facilities: New restrooms designed for combined use have been constructed. The cafeteria area renovation is underway with expected completion in three weeks.
  • Accessibility: Installation of ramps and elevators designed to improve accessibility for all students and staff has begun.
  • Safety and Compliance: Fire safety systems, including alarms and emergency exits, are being updated in compliance with local regulations.

Updated Schedule:

  • Structural Completion: Expected by the end of next month.
  • Interior Finishing: Painting, flooring, and fixtures installation planned for the following four weeks after structural completion.
  • Equipment Installation: Furniture and educational equipment are scheduled to be moved in two weeks before reopening.
  • Projected Completion Date: Full completion targeted for mid-November.
  • School Reopening: The merged facility is anticipated to open for the new academic term starting December 1st.

Next Steps:

  • Continue with the scheduled interior works and safety system updates.
  • Conduct regular inspections to ensure timelines and quality standards are met.
  • Plan for staff and student orientation sessions prior to reopening.

The unification project is part of an ongoing initiative by Mayor Davide Samuel Umberto Ravera, facilitated by the efforts of the Region and the Province to keep schools open in rural areas. The kindergarten and elementary school will be unified in a single building, located in Via Roma.

For the convenience of both students and staff, two separate entrances are planned: one for the kindergarten and one for the elementary school. The kindergarten entrance will be the former elementary school entrance, while the elementary school entrance will be moved to the location of the previous polling station, which will now be set up in the Town Hall.

The Regional Councilor for Local Entities, Enrico Bussalino, has provided constant presence and daily help in the unification project. The nearest school to the unified kindergarten and elementary school is 20 kilometers away, making this project crucial for the community in Garbagna.

  • The unification of the kindergarten and elementary school in Garbagna, now under renovation, will provide an average student with access to extended operation hours, full-day care, computer and multimedia classrooms, a gym, and improved facilities.
  • The Regional Councilor for Local Entities, Enrico Bussalino, recognizes the significant role of education-and-self-development opportunities for the students in Garbagna, making this unification project essential for their growth and success.
