MERICS Welcomes Claudia Wessling as Director of Communications, Wiebke Ewering Joins DGAP
Claudia Wessling, a seasoned journalist and Asia expert, has taken on the role of director of communications and publications at MERICS. With a background in mathematics, information technology, and digitalization, she brings a wealth of experience to the position. Wiebke Ewering, who has extensive experience in press and public relations, now oversees all aspects of external communication at DGAP.
Wessling's journey in journalism began after studying Chinese, Indonesian, and economics in Bonn, Wuhu, Yogyakarta, and science journalism in Berlin. She has written for prominent publications such as Heise Technology Review, Tagesspiegel, and Handelsblatt, specializing in China and Indonesia. Prior to MERICS, Wessling was an editor and correspondent for German politics at news agency Agence France-Presse in Berlin.
Ewering's academic credentials include a double Master's degree in Political Science and European Studies from Freie Universität Berlin and Sciences Po Paris, as well as a Bachelor's degree from the University of Osnabrück and the Université de Montréal. She has worked for organizations like the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR), the Dahrendorf Forum, and the Franco-German Youth Office before joining DGAP.
Both Wessling and Ewering bring unique skills and experiences to their new roles. Wessling's expertise in digitalization and Asia, coupled with her journalistic background, will be invaluable to MERICS. Meanwhile, Ewering's extensive experience in press and public relations, along with her academic credentials, makes her a strong fit for DGAP.
