Local Gymnasium & Archive Win Statewide Award for Holocaust Education Project
A local gymnasium and archive have teamed up for a history project that's been recognised statewide. The Albertus-Magnus-Gymnasium in Dülken held a project week in late January, focusing on the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp. Students delved into authentic sources at the local archive, leading to an educational partnership award.
Over two days, 162 students from the gymnasium researched individual fates of those persecuted by the Nazi regime. The local archive commended their care and the high-quality contributions they produced. The project week was part of preparations for the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz. The gymnasium's principal highlighted the importance of authentic source material, especially in the age of AI and fake news.
The cooperation between the gymnasium and the local archive is set to continue. School classes will regularly visit the archive for history lessons. This long-term partnership was recognised as one of the 35 participants in the statewide 'Kooperation.Konkret' competition of Bildungspartner NRW.
The project week at the Albertus-Magnus-Gymnasium resulted in an educational partnership with the local archive. This partnership, recognised statewide, encourages students to work with original sources. It fosters a deeper understanding of history and the importance of authentic information.
