Live Online Seminar Focusing on Lichens: Exploring the Fascinating World of Fungi and Algae Together

In an exciting development for wildlife enthusiasts, the Suffolk Wildlife Trust is set to host a lichen webinar led by field lichenologist Anthony Speca. The event, scheduled for Thursday, 13th November 2025, from 7-8:30 pm, is part of the Wildlife Live Webinars series and promises to be a fascinating journey into the world of lichens.

Anthony Speca, based in northeast Suffolk, will guide participants through the intriguing realm of lichens, discussing their importance, nature, types, structure, growth, and spread. With his extensive knowledge and experience in lichen education, surveying, and consultancy through Aspen Ecology, Speca is well-equipped to deliver an informative and engaging session.

The webinar will also touch upon the current state of lichens in Britain, highlighting the fact that they aren't flourishing as much as they could. Participants will learn about conservation and promotion strategies to help these fascinating organisms thrive.

For those interested, Anthony Speca will be leading a half-day lichen workshop for the Suffolk Wildlife Trust at Carlton Marshes on 8th June 2025, and a two-day lichen basics course for the Field Studies Council at Flatford Mill on 21-22 June 2025.
