Kamala Harris Weighs 2026 California Governor Bid or 2028 Presidential Run

Kamala Harris, the first Black and Indian American woman to win a presidential nomination, is contemplating her political future. She has until the end of summer to decide between running for California governor in 2026 or another presidential bid in 2028. Her party, still recovering from her 2024 loss, awaits her decision.

Harris, who raised a record $1 billion in a single quarter during her 2024 campaign, has not ruled out another presidential run. She commemorated the one-year anniversary of her campaign against Donald Trump last month. However, historically, presidential nominees who lose an election rarely secure the nomination again. Democrats are eager to find a winning message for upcoming elections.

Meanwhile, California Governor Gavin Newsom, perceived as a potential 2028 candidate, has raised concerns about the fairness of the electoral process if Trump runs again. Harris has not publicly stated her position on a 2028 run, leaving room for speculation.

With Joe Biden withdrawing from the 2024 race and endorsing her, Harris now faces a deadline to decide her next move. If she chooses to run for either governor or president, she should start preparing soon. Her decision will significantly impact the political landscape and the Democratic Party's future.
