Empowering Young Neuwieders: "Let's Give It a Try!" Project Kicks Off on March 10
Young residents of Neuwied are given the opportunity to shape their city through the "Let's Give It a Try!" project. Initiated by the Deichstadt community, this initiative encourages local children and adolescents to develop and execute projects aimed at improving their neighborhoods.
Co-creating Neuwied's Future
Sonja Jensen, the coordinator of the child-friendly municipality, explains that the project emphasizes empowering young people to take charge of their surroundings. Projects may range from self-organized tournaments, clean-up days, to awareness days on climate change, as long as they contribute positively to the community as a whole.

"Let's Give It a Try!" is an element of the action plan of the child-friendly municipality, which was developed following Neuwied's award in September 2023. The city offers financial support of up to €1,500 to projects that foster coexistence in the districts. According to Jensen, the project represents an active form of participation that demonstrates young people's ability to bring about meaningful change.
Join the Initiative
The project is open to children and young people aged between 8 and 18 from Neuwied. Applications can be submitted between March 10 and May 12. Successful applicants will present their project ideas to a jury of Neuwied youth after the deadline. Applicants may also request up to €300 for materials, provided their project is implemented in a group setting and funds are used for the common good.

Engaging Minds and MusclesSonja Jensen highlights that apart from community projects, the "Let's Give It a Try!" initiative encourages young people to engage in sports and physical activities that foster cohesion and personal growth.
Shaping Tomorrow Through KnowledgeOn the other hand, the project also endorses educational and self-development initiatives that promote critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and lifelong learning among the city's youth. Participants can propose educational workshops, book clubs, or discussions about various topics, as long as they align with the project's mission.
