IRCC Launches New Tool for International Students to Verify PGWP-Eligible Programs
International students in Canada can now easily verify if their school offers Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) programs. The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has launched a new tool to simplify the process.
To check if their institution is a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) and offers PGWP-eligible programs, students can now use the IRCC DLI List page. Simply select their province or territory to find out.
To confirm if a specific program is PGWP-eligible, students can use the Classification of Instructional Programs (CIP) system. Cross-referencing this with a table on a dedicated webpage will provide the necessary information. This ensures students meet the conditions required for a PGWP upon graduation.
PGWPs are Open Work Permits (OWPs) that allow international graduates to work for most employers in most industries in Canada. The duration of the PGWP varies from eight months to three years, depending on the level and length of the program. These permits can be crucial for international students aiming to build eligibility for Canadian permanent residence programs, such as the Canadian Experience Class (CEC).
