Indian Companies Pledge Climate Action with CII Charter

On September 21, 2022, several companies signed the CII Climate Change Charter, committing to tackle climate change and support India's sustainability goals. The charter outlines four key principles, aiming to help businesses develop long-term climate strategies. India, aiming for zero net carbon emissions by 2070 and 50% renewable electricity by 2030, sees industry as crucial. The CII Climate Change Charter focuses on reducing greenhouse gas emissions, transitioning value chains, building resilience, and mobilizing green finance. Climate change, responsible for over 75% of greenhouse emissions and nearly 90% of carbon emissions, demands urgent action. The charter encourages businesses to develop long-term climate actions and share best practices for addressing climate risks. Strategies include transitioning to renewable energy, reducing waste, and adopting circular economy practices. These can minimize environmental impact while maximizing economic and social benefits, fostering sustainable industrial development. The CII Climate Change Charter, signed by undisclosed companies, signals Indian industry's commitment to combating climate change. With clear principles and strategies, it supports India's ambitious sustainability goals, tackling complex global issues like power generation, manufacturing, and deforestation.
