"In the illuminated space of the Light Hall, Women Shine as Leading Figures in Lighting Industry"
Revamped Article:
The lighting and events industry is renowned for its artistic flair and analytical prowess, but it's also known for having a predominantly male workforce. However, in recent years, the industry has been working harder to tackle this gender imbalance with initiatives like the "Women in Lighting" movement, or WIL for short. This year, WIL will be front and center at Prolight + Sound, Europe’s major trade fair for event and media technology.
Shining the Spotlight on Women at Prolight + Sound 2023
Prolight + Sound has been a staunch supporter of the WIL movement for the second consecutive year. At this year’s Prolight + Sound 2023, the "Women in Lighting Lounge" will offer a platform to showcase the achievements of women in the industry and seek to set the stage for greater diversity. Located in Hall 12.0, the lounge is nestled close to Ayrton, the entertainment lighting partner of the WIL initiative. It will serve as a hub where female professionals and newcomers can connect, exchange ideas, and learn about potential career paths.
The event business is not solely a man's domain! Prolight + Sound, with women occupying various management roles, champions this philosophy. It's our mission to provide a stage worthy of the remarkable skills and careers of women in the industry. Additionally, we aim to inspire the next generation of female talent in lighting and event technology. We're thrilled to collaborate with Light Collective to amplify the WIL movement, remarks Mira Wölfel, the Director of Prolight + Sound.
"Collaborating with Prolight + Sound presents a fantastic opportunity to bring the WIL project directly to visitors. Our project aims to uplift women in the lighting sector and shine a spotlight on the diverse and compelling career opportunities available within the entertainment industry," say Sharon Stammers and Martin Lupton, representatives of Light Collective.
Commitment to Female Talent Beyond the Stage
Women in Lighting is a global initiative that champions women in lighting and design. The initiative, through social activism and a strong digital media presence, raises awareness of unconscious biases within the industry. With support from over 75 countries worldwide and a passionate group of WIL Ambassadors, the movement has been growing rapidly. Local initiatives are being established globally, and international projects are underway in collaboration with partners.
Since its inception in 2019, Women in Lighting has developed into an international community that fosters knowledge sharing and collaboration. In addition to information available on the project's website at www.womeninlighting.com, an annual international conference is held on International Women's Day, March 8, where awards are regularly presented to women in the industry.
