Holy Cross Unveils Plans to Fund Tuition for Families Earning Less Than $100,000 Annually

In a recent announcement, President Vincent Rougeau of the College of the Holy Cross expressed pride in deepening the institution's commitment to expanding educational opportunities for more young people. This commitment is evident in several notable changes and developments at the college.

During the 2022-2023 academic year, 65% of the student body benefited from $76.5 million in need-based scholarships. This significant financial aid investment underscores the college's dedication to making education accessible.

The college's financial aid policies have been revamped for the 2023-2024 academic year, with a focus on expanding the criteria for full tuition scholarships. Students whose families have a total income of $100,000 or less, along with "reasonable assets," are now eligible for full tuition coverage, marking a significant increase from the previous cutoff of $75,000.

Starting the upcoming academic year, the College will cover full tuition for students from families with an annual income of less than $100,000. This move further emphasizes the college's commitment to accessibility.

The College of the Holy Cross has also made a physical investment, purchasing the 300,000 square foot Rotmans Furniture property on 725 Southbridge Street. There has been speculation amongst students about potential uses for this property, including the creation of off-campus dorms and a food spot.

The College of the Holy Cross has been a pioneer in making college education more accessible. In 2005, it adopted test optional policies, and its Financial Aid Office personally reviews and allocates money based on the financial need demonstrated by students' FAFSA and CSS profiles.

The college's top priority is to ensure that talented students from all backgrounds can access a Holy Cross education. This commitment is reflected in its ranking as number five in Money Magazine's list of "Best Value Liberal Arts Colleges."

The average cost for students after financial aid at the College of the Holy Cross is $36,000. With the college's expanded financial aid program and commitment to accessibility, more students will have the opportunity to experience a high-quality education at a reduced cost.

In the past few weeks, the college community has been emotionally invested in the upcoming 2024 election, with various organizations and clubs actively participating in election-related activities. The college continues to foster an environment that encourages active civic engagement and promotes the exchange of ideas.
