HBCUs Targeted in Bomb Threats as College Hoaxes Surge

Four Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), including Spelman College and Morehouse College, received bomb threats on Tuesday, causing widespread concern and disruption. Meanwhile, four Pennsylvania universities were alerted about potential shootings on their campuses. This follows a week of hoax calls and threats that have led to campus shutdowns and increased law enforcement presence.

The targeted HBCUs include Spelman College and Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia. These institutions, along with many others across the country, have been grappling with a wave of shooting hoaxes and bomb threats in recent days. At least 11 colleges were affected by bomb threats yesterday alone, impacting over one million students and resulting in significant operational costs, estimated at $60 million.

One notable incident involved the University of Florida, which temporarily halted operations due to a hoax call about an active shooter. These incidents have put students, faculty, and staff on edge, disrupting academic activities and causing anxiety.

Authorities are investigating these incidents and have urged the public to remain vigilant. The motive behind these threats remains unclear, but they have sparked outrage and concern among educational institutions and communities nationwide. As investigations continue, colleges and universities are reviewing their safety protocols to ensure the well-being of their students and staff.
