Hannover Police Boost Cycling Safety: 362 Violations, 107 Unroadworthy Bikes
The Hannover Police Directorate has been actively promoting road safety, particularly for cyclists and e-bikers. Over 200 participants attended six traffic accident prevention events, learning about safe road behaviour and bicycle technical requirements.
In the past week, the police conducted targeted controls to enhance cycling safety. They checked 683 cyclists and e-bikers, uncovering 362 traffic violations. Notably, 107 bicycles were found with technical defects, rendering them unroadworthy.
The controls revealed concerning trends among other road users. A total of 163 traffic violations were found, with 64 cases of ignored right of way involving cyclists. Among cyclists themselves, 94 violated pedestrian zones, 64 used mobile phones illegally while riding, and 23 ignored right of way.
The Hannover Police Directorate appeals to all road users to prioritise safety and mutual awareness. They urge everyone to comply with traffic rules to reduce accidents and ensure a safer environment for all.
