Guaranteed pledge upon entrance at the main customs center in Brunswick
The Main Customs Office in Braunschweig recently welcomed its newest members, with over 28 young talents starting their careers or training on September 1, 2025. This exciting milestone was marked by a ceremony last Monday, where the new recruits were appointed as provisional civil servants and sworn in by the deputy head of the Main Customs Office, Mrs. Senior Government Counselor Kerstin Müller.
The Customs Office offers a secure job with many exciting and varied tasks. Its mission is to contribute to tax revenues, consumer protection, securing jobs, and the digitalization of administration in Germany. Interested parties can apply for a position starting September 1, 2026, until October 15, 2025, at the Hauptzollamt Braunschweig (higher or middle customs service).

During the getting-to-know-each-other event, the new recruits got a first impression of their future work. They were introduced to the departments and interest groups of the Main Customs Office, with a focus on the areas of enforcement, inspection service, financial control of undeclared work, and penalties.
The practical phases of the training are completed by the customs recruits in various areas of their training customs office, nearby customs offices, customs investigation offices, and suitable areas of the General Customs Directorate. The theoretical parts of the higher service are completed at the Federal Administration Academy in Münster, and for the middle service at the training centers of the Federal Finance Administration in various locations.
After completing the dual study program or training, the young customs officers can expect to be employed in various areas of customs, including case processing, special units, financial control of undeclared work, and customs investigation. The Customs Office will continue to offer training and study places for a secure future in a large federal administration.
In principle, the Customs Office takes on all its suitable young talents. For the current recruitment cycle, 7 trainees in the higher customs service and 21 trainees in the middle customs service will begin their training at the Main Customs Office in Braunschweig.
