Gen Z 'Zoomers' to Reshape Irish Workplace, Seek Balance and Meaning

Generation Z, or Zoomers, are set to reshape the Irish workplace. Born between 1998 and 2012, they make up 21% of the population and will soon dominate the mid to lower tiers. AI, their generational incubator, has reduced entry-level jobs, making workplaces more precarious. Yet, they embrace new tools like AI and seek a balance of money, meaning, and wellbeing.

Gen Z prioritises purpose and continuous learning, redefining success and work norms. They challenge traditional choices and patterns, expecting work-life balance, control, fulfillment, and financial stability. By 2027, they will make up nearly three-quarters of the global workforce, signalling a shift in work culture.

Growing up with technology and coming of age during the pandemic, Zoomers are comfortable discussing private and social issues at work. They seek a trifecta of money, meaning, and wellbeing, building technical and soft skills for the future. However, employers struggle to integrate them, needing to adapt quickly to attract and retain this talent. This includes rethinking the role of managers as coaches and mentors.

Gen Z's entry into the workplace is transforming Irish work culture. Their expectations for purpose, balance, and open communication are reshaping traditional norms. Employers must adapt their management styles and work environments to accommodate this change, or risk losing out on a significant portion of the workforce.
