Fire Safety Awareness with St. Mark's Kindergarten: "Attend to Prevent Flames"

The Volunteer Fire Department of Bedburg-Hau recently welcomed a group of eager young minds from St. Markus Kindergarten, offering them an insightful and engaging lesson on fire safety and the crucial role of their local firefighters.

In a fun and interactive setting, the children were introduced to the key roles and functions of the fire department, which include fire prevention and safety education, emergency response, rescue operations, and community support.

During the session, the children had the opportunity to explore firefighting equipment such as helmets, jackets, hoses, and extinguishers, helping to demystify the gear and reduce any fear associated with firefighters. They also enjoyed a tour of the fire truck, learning about its various tools, sirens, and the important role it plays in emergency response.

The firefighters demonstrated practical activities like using a fire hose (under supervision), showing how smoke detectors work, and role-playing emergency scenarios, all designed to engage the children actively and reinforce their understanding of fire safety.

A Q&A session followed, where the children asked questions about the firefighters' work, their gear, and what they should do in case of a fire. One child even pointed out that when they hear the 'tata-tata' sound, cars have to move aside, demonstrating their newfound knowledge.

The visit concluded with a chance for the children to climb inside the fire truck, their excitement palpable as they experienced firsthand the equipment they had learned about.

Through this educational visit, the children gained a better understanding of the Volunteer Fire Department's role in emergency preparedness and response, as well as the importance of fire safety at home and school. The session aimed to foster trust between the children and firefighters, reducing any fear and panic in emergency situations.

The early engagement with the children helps cultivate respect and appreciation for volunteer firefighters, encouraging community involvement and fostering safer communities for the future.
