Film Festival Osnabrück Turns 40: Panel Discusses Immigration Through Cinema

The Film Festival Osnabrück, celebrating its 40th anniversary, invites you to a panel discussion exploring Germany's immigration history through cinema. Prof. Dr. Christoph Rass, from the University of Osnabrück's Institute for Migration Research and Intercultural Studies (IMIS), will join filmmaker Serpil Turhan and cultural scientist Aurora Rodonò to discuss 'Film Perspectives on Germany as an Immigration Country'. The event is free and takes place on Saturday, October 11, at the Felix-Nussbaum-Haus, starting at 3 pm.

The panel discussion, organised by IMIS and Migration Policy e.V., will delve into how independent films have addressed and negotiated social developments in Germany's immigration history. Prof. Rass, an expert in migration studies, will discuss breaks and continuities in filmic perspectives alongside the experienced filmmaker Serpil Turhan and cultural scientist Aurora Rodonò. The event reflects Germany's status as a country of immigration, a theme that has been consistently explored in its cinema over the past four decades.

Join the panelists as they explore how film has shaped and reflected our understanding of migration, belonging, and identity in Germany. The event is a unique opportunity to engage with experts and celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Film Festival Osnabrück.
