"Father and offspring delve into educational pursuits jointly"
From Dads to DIY Masters: A Father-Son Carpentry Journey
Getting handy doesn't always require a degree in construction—take Sigurður Brynjar Pálsson and Sölvi Steinn Sigurðsson, for example. The dynamic duo, who are both studying carpentry at FB's evening school, have bigger plans than just learning to hammer a nail. They're teaming up to build a guesthouse at their family's summerhouse come next summer.
A Carpenter CEO amidst BYKO's branches
The elder of the two, Sigurður, took a detour from his CEO role at BYKO before he found his way to hammers and saws. "I've always wanted to be able to do things myself," Sigurður says, citing his love for working with his hands and creating things. The carpentry course serves as a welcomed respite from his day-to-day work demands.
A Business Student with a Carpentry Heart
Sölvi, a 21-year-old business student at the University of Iceland, shares his father's affinity for hands-on projects. Although he didn't initially plan to pursue carpentry, he reluctantly agreed to enroll in the carpentry course alongside his father.
Learning alongside his dad? No problem. "It's been a good time with my dad," Sölvi admits, adding that education is always a good investment.
How Does Business Administration and Carpentry Play Together?
Balancing business courses and carpentry classes might seem like a tough feat, but Sölvi hints that the combination can work wonders. "It's a great fit—getting to take a break from books and engage in something more physical," he says. Juggling the workload can be a bit stressful, but staying organized and embracing the challenge is key.
A Trip Down Memory Lane
For father and son, the journey has been nothing short of special. "It's been a joy to study together," Sigurður admits. They often collaborate on assignments, offering each other advice and a fresh perspective. "We scrutinize the assignments, exchange opinions, and figure out a mutual conclusion," Sigurður shares, emphasizing the rewarding learning process.
A Lifelong Lesson Book
Learning carpentry isn't just another hobby for the duo—it's a lifelong skill that promises numerous real-world applications. Sigurður, who aims to complete his Master's program, believes the carpentry expertise will be advantageous for his current role and future BYKO clients.
Sölvi, who's still exploring his career path, sees the carpentry education as a valuable asset, whether it be in the corporate world or in constructing his own home someday. Who knows? Their shared passion for carpentry might even lead to a "Fathers on Tour" project one day.
