Young Chemistry Star Shines at Heidelberg University After Remarkable Achievements
Jonathan Janser, a remarkable young scientist, is set to embark on a new chapter in his academic journey as he prepares to study chemistry at Heidelberg University. This decision follows an impressive internship and an exceptional educational path that has earned him numerous accolades.
Jonathan's journey began at the Heinrich-Hertz-Berufskolleg in Düsseldorf, where he pursued a path to become a Chemical Technical Assistant (CTA). His daily commute from Erkelenz to Düsseldorf was a testament to his dedication and ambition. During his school time, he excelled in chemistry, chemical technology, biology, and mathematics, demonstrating a natural aptitude for the sciences.
One of his most significant achievements was receiving the Abitur prize from the Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker for outstanding achievements in chemistry. This honour came as a result of his exceptional performance, scoring an impressive 896 out of 900 points in his Abitur exams, a rare accomplishment in Germany.
Before the official school project "Students Helping Students," Jonathan was already supporting his peers in chemistry, showcasing his commitment to academic excellence and collaboration. His educational path leader, Herr Kretschmer, and his brother, who previously achieved a strong Abitur, also motivated him throughout his journey.
In addition to his academic prowess, Jonathan also participated in the Chemistry Olympiad 2024, securing a place among the top 20 participants in Germany. His academic career, marked by excellent performance and social and international engagement, was honoured at the "School Heroes 2025" awards ceremony in Düsseldorf.
Jonathan's educational path is unique. It combines vocational training with the Abitur, providing a flexible combination suited for individuals who want to work hands-on in chemical labs with professional certification but keep the academic route open. This integrated pathway is more practically oriented than pure university teaching but more academically comprehensive than standard apprenticeship-level CTA programs alone.
Currently, Jonathan is completing a 7-week professional internship as part of his CTA certification in Valencia, Spain. He believes that peer-to-peer learning can be very effective and was actively seeking the Heinrich-Hertz-Berufskolleg for its connection between theory and practice.
As he prepares to take on the challenges of Heidelberg University, Jonathan sees possibilities in research and future specializations in chemistry.
