European Officials Introduce Fresh Strategy to Advance Internet Utilization in Education
The "Umbruchszeiten. Germany in Transition since Reunification" youth competition is now open for young people aged 13 to 19 from all types of schools. This competition, organised by the Federal Foundation for the Reappraisal of the SED Dictatorship and the Federal Commissioner for the New States of Germany, invites participants to explore the historical period since 1989/90 with a changing annual focus theme.
The fourth round of the competition begins on 1st September 2025, and submissions are due by 1st February 2026. This year's theme is "New Encounters" (Neue Begegnungen), encouraging participants to delve into new encounters: between East and West, North and South, young and old, and between people with and without migration experience.
Participants can create entries in various formats such as podcasts, films, short stories, comics, social media channels, exhibitions, or other creative forms, accompanied by a project report explaining their question, approach, and sources. All participants will receive a certificate, and the best projects will be awarded prizes between 500 and 3,000 euros.
Winning groups will travel to Berlin for the award ceremony, with travel and accommodation costs covered. The competition is also offering professional development opportunities for teachers and project mentors, and online office hours are offered for interested teams.
