In the heart of Hamm, at Theodor-Heuss-Platz 165, a significant event took place recently. Mayor Marc Herter, along with Marion Kötters-Wenner (Chairperson of the Committee for Digitalization and Innovation), Karin Diebäcker (Head of the Office for School Education), and Ingo Drees (Deputy Head of the Office for School Education), presented the results of the Media Development Plan (MEP) 2020-2024.

Mayor Herter expressed his satisfaction with Hamm's current standing, stating that the city is in a good position nationwide with this balance sheet. He emphasized that digitization in schools is not a future project, but a lived reality in Hamm.

The MEP, a comprehensive plan aimed at enhancing digital infrastructure in schools, has seen significant success. The city of Hamm contributed a high proportion of municipal funds amounting to 13.7 million euros for its implementation. Additionally, an additional 15.7 million euros were available through funding.

Central IT structures were modernized with the switch to uniform systems like IServ and Citrix, an increase in IT staff, and the acquisition of over 1,700 presentation devices (projectors and TV screens). As a result, schools in Hamm now average over 70% device quota, enabling a 1:1 or 1:2 ratio in many cases. All school locations in Hamm are connected via fiber optic cables and equipped with modern Wi-Fi and LAN.

Karin Diebäcker, head of the Office for School Education, emphasized that the equipment in schools provides the conditions for modern teaching with digital media and that these are indeed being used. She also highlighted that the MEP has been successfully implemented, surpassing the goals set particularly in the provision of digital end devices and the expansion of school network infrastructure.

The continuation of the MEP aims to ensure sustainable structures and social justice. The person responsible for the continuation of the MEP 2026-2030 in the schools of Hamm is Sabine Kasper.
