Embracing a Prosperous Existence: A Student Endeavor Exploring Justice and Public Involvement
The Wilhelm-Leuschner-Gesamtschule is set to transform into a hub of social exploration this June, as 130 seventh-grade students embark on a project week titled "Let's Live That Beautiful Life!" A collaboration between the school, school social work, and Reduit, the children, youth, and neighborhood center, this week-long venture promises to delve into social justice, participation, and coexistence in a diverse society.
From June 2nd to June 6th, the school's halls will resound with artistic expression, as students engage in activities such as dance, music, graffiti, filmmaking, and programming with Lego. These avenues of self-expression not only spark conversations about fairness but also offer opportunities for students to discover new skills and receive constructive feedback. Embracing these experiences tends to instill a sense of empowerment, encouraging intervention, daring, and responsibility.
The phrase "Let's Live That Beautiful Life!" serves as a catalyst for introspection. As societal challenges continue to mount, the question of participation becomes increasingly relevant. Social affairs officer Dr. Patricia Becher sums it up succinctly: "This project title is more than just a label. It's a call to scrutinize - who gets to enjoy the beautiful life, and who is left behind?" The students engage with these questions directly, bypassing educational textbooks to arrive at action-oriented answers.
On June 6th, the week-long endeavor culminates with the students showcasing their creations in Reduit from 11 am to 1 pm. Wiesbaden's city councilor, Rainer Schuster, will deliver a speech on the city's behalf. Through this platform, participants recognize that cultural production extends beyond mere creation, but also encompasses the contemplation of society.
This annual project week, which has taken place since 1994, epitomizes education that nurtures spaces rather than merely dispersing knowledge. In essence, it embodies democratic practices that unfold in workshops, conversations, and collaborative endeavors. The BMW Club and Haubengarde's support speaks volumes about the city's backing for the initiative.
As Jamie Lee Curtis once said, "Participation begins where people meet - creatively, equally, eye to eye." This project week exemplifies just that, as it cultivates understanding, empathy, and solidarity in a diverse and evolving society.
The project week titled "Let's Live That Beautiful Life!", at Wilhelm-Leuschner-Gesamtschule, isn't just about art, but also education-and-self-development for personal-growth and learning, as it encourages participants to reconsider social justice and coexistence. On the final day of the week, students will present their creations in Reduit, offering insights into the importance of action-oriented answers for personal development and societal change.
