Digital library access cards for students and educators: Introduction of Bibcard in Bremen schools
In the city of Bremen, a new initiative is making waves in the digital education sphere. The city library has launched the Digital School Bibcard, a digital library card designed to simplify access to a wide range of digital offerings for students and teachers.
The Bibcard provides direct access to services such as LinkedIn Learning, Onleihe, Filmfriend, and more. According to Lucia Werder, Director of Bremen's city library, this card simplifies processes between schools and the city library, making digital education more accessible.
The Digital School Bibcard is an important step in promoting digital education in Bremen, with Senator Björn Fecker highlighting that digitization helps improve the concrete lives of the city's citizens. The project was financially supported by the special fund "Reinforcement funds" of the Senator for Finance, which is available for Digital Administration and Citizen Service.
The registration process for the Digital School Bibcard is straightforward and quick. Students and teachers can register directly via their school iPads, bypassing the need for additional parental consent. This streamlined process aims to facilitate access to knowledge and information for all.
The Bibcard can be used outside of school with the wallet function on a private smartphone. Registration on school iPads allows for seamless transfer of the Bibcard to personal devices, making it convenient for students and teachers to access the city library's extensive offerings anytime, anywhere.
The Digital School Bibcard makes the diverse offerings of the city library even more accessible to young people. By integrating with UCS@school, a centralized IT management platform used in schools, students and teachers can authenticate and register for their digital library card using their school-managed digital identities directly on their school iPads.
This initiative is seen as a significant step towards greater equality of opportunity by Senator for Education, Sascha Karolin Aulepp. The Digital School Bibcard is expected to play a crucial role in fostering digital literacy and facilitating access to knowledge and information for all students and teachers in Bremen.
