"Detectives with Moral Compasses" span across the entire county
In a bid to foster a culture of sustainability among its youngest residents, the Landshut Environmental Center has launched the "Waste Detectives" project. This innovative initiative, aimed at second and third graders, is designed to engage children in environmental protection in a practical and illustrative way.
The project kicked off on July 24, 2025, and since then, it has been well-received by the participating children, who have shown an enthusiastic response. The "Waste Detectives" project is a collaborative effort between the Landshut Environmental Center, Building Authority, and Waste Management of the district and city.
The "Waste Detectives" project aims to turn children into "real waste detectives", providing them with hands-on experience at waste recycling centers. This experience not only strengthens their understanding of sustainability but also reinforces their role as environmental and recycling experts.
Through the project, children are taken on visits to local recycling centers, where they learn about proper waste separation, gain insights into behind-the-scenes operations, and interact with professionals. This hands-on approach is intended to make the learning experience more engaging and memorable.
The "Wertstoffdetektiven" program in Landshut is coordinated by the institution "Stadt Landshut" (City of Landshut). The project is free for all second and third graders in Landshut city and district, making it accessible to a wide audience. Teachers are encouraged to register their classes for the project, ensuring that as many children as possible can benefit from this unique opportunity.
The "Waste Detectives" project is more than just a recycling initiative. It aims to demonstrate that each individual can make a valuable contribution to the shared future.
