In an inspiring tale of resilience and determination, Adiba Anam, a remarkable young woman from Maharashtra's Yavatmal district, is set to make history as the first Muslim woman IAS officer from the state. With an All India Rank (AIR) of 142 in the UPSC 2024 examination, Adiba defied the odds stacked against her and triumphed against numerous adversities.

Hailing from a humble background, Adiba's father, Ashfaq Sheikh, an auto-rickshaw driver who didn't complete his education beyond the 10th grade, was dedicated to ensuring his daughter's dreams remained unhindered. Adiba, who excelled academically, scoring 98% in her 10th grade and 97% in her 12th grade (science stream), was not deterred by financial constraints or her region's socioeconomic struggles in the drought-prone Vidarbha area, notorious for high farmer suicide rates.

Adiba's journey was not without setbacks. Despite reaching the UPSC interview stage in her second attempt, she wasn't selected for the final list. However, she persevered, learning from her mistakes and striving to improve with every attempt. In her third and final attempt, Adiba's hard work paid off, earning her a place on the coveted UPSC list.

Former Maharashtra Minister and Congress leader Manikrao Thakre applauded Adiba's achievement, praising her grit and determination. A native of Yavatmal district, Thakre took to a social media platform to express his admiration, hailing Adiba as an inspiration whose success will motivate many students.

Yavatmal's top civil servants also hailed Adiba's achievement, with the Yavatmal Police congratulating the UPSC-selected candidates, including Adiba Anam Ashfaq Ahmad Sheikh (Rank 142) and Dr Jay Kumar Ade (Rank 300). Bhiwandi East MLA Rais Sheikh was similarly inspired by Adiba's journey, lauding her father's unwavering support and congratulating her on becoming Maharashtra's first Muslim woman IAS officer.

Adiba's success story is a testament to her father's unwavering support, emotional and financial, which enabled her to overcome various challenges. Now, as she embarks on her civil services journey, Adiba is determined to work for the underprivileged, especially girls, underscoring her commitment to uplifting marginalized communities.

Adiba's inspiring journey serves as a beacon of hope for many, highlighting the transformative impact of perseverance in overcoming systemic barriers. Her younger brothers are reportedly following in her academic footsteps, demonstrating the family's commitment to education and leaving a lasting legacy.
