Celebrating Mihm's Achievements in Encouraging Outstanding Public Service for Future Leaders

In the halls of the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, adjunct professor Chris Mihm is making a significant impact, teaching courses on public administration, democracy, and performance management. His teaching style is characterised by clear presentation, an inclusive classroom environment, diverse dialogue, and meaningful course assignments that come with constructive feedback.

Recently, Mihm was honoured with the 2025 Arnold Steigman Excellence in Teaching Award by the New York State Academy for Public Administration (SAPA). This prestigious award pays tribute to the late Arnold Steigman, a long-time government official and public administration teacher, and is presented annually to a part-time instructor in public administration.

Mihm's dedication to fostering excellence in public service education is evident in his role as a guest lecturer on topics such as globalized governance, risk management, performance assessment, public-private partnerships, performance budgeting, and public sector management reform. His students continue to be influenced by his teaching in their careers.

Mihm's extensive public service career includes being the former chairperson of the Independent Audit Advisory Committee for the United Nations and a member and chairperson of the Independent Expert Oversight Advisory Committee for the World Health Organization. He has also published numerous chapters and reports on the business of government and preparing governments for future political and economic shocks.

With over 400 students taught in the M.P.A. and executive M.P.A. programs at Maxwell School over the past seven years, Mihm's influence is far-reaching. He is a fellow and former chair of the board of directors at the National Academy of Public Administration, and currently serves as the deputy chair on the Governance, Audit and Compliance Committee at the Fédération Internationale de Football Association.

The SAPA, a New York State-based, nonprofit organization promoting best practices for public administration professionals, is one of the many organisations that recognise Mihm's contributions to the field. His work aligns with the organisation's mission, which has been in operation since 1974, promoting best practices for public administration professionals.
